A nostalgic walk into the past : In the early 50’s, “Mr K. RAMIAH NADAR”, a General Merchant and Commission Agent at Rathmal Garden, 19 Walahapitiya, Nattandiya, Sri Lanka which was earlier known as Ceylon.
He was one of the persons affected by the Ceylon Governments Scheme of repatriation of Indian Nationals, therefore returned to India.
Later in the year 1980, his elder son Mr.Gunasekar and the younger one Mr.Santhanapandian established “KANI STORE”, a small retail store which was located near Tilak Nagar Police Station in Tilak Nagar Colony, Chembur.
After the death of Mr.Santhanapandian, Mr.Chandrasekar, the youngest of the siblings entered into the business and took the lead when he was just 17 years old and took the business to the next level.
In 1996, the brothers parted their ways from each other. Mr.Gunasekar started his own business, meanwhile Mr.Chandrasekar continued with the “KANI STORE”. His wife Mrs.Sumathy Nadar has been his pillar of strength and support throughout his struggle to achieve success. She had faith in his mettle and has always been his backbone during tough times. She not only actively participates in decision making but also carefully handles the monetary matters.She has achieved a satisfying, fulfilling and well balanced life both personally and professionally.
After the flood incident that occurred in Mumbai on 26th July 2005, which devastated many of the retail stores, the area where “KANI STORE” was located at, went through demolition due to the ‘Santacruz-Chembur Link Road’ Project, Mr.Chandrasekar relocated and expanded “KANI STORE” into “KANI DEPARTMENTAL STORES PVT.LTD.” measuring 3000 sq. ft. which happens to be the most prominent store in Tilak Nagar, Chembur.
